While the world has gone through many changes in the past three years, a few things have remained constant in our industry, such as the continued growth of designer resale, the consumer’s focus on sustainability, the drive to online shopping, and our list of top-selling luxury brands.

In almost every demographic, our top five brands have remained pretty much the same aside from a few minor position shifts—Gucci fell to number four, while Dior has reappeared in the top five—but our top three luxury brands for 2022 will come as no surprise to anyone, along with the styles that everyone wants to get their hands on right now.

TOP DESIGNER RESALE BRANDS IN 2022

Even though brands like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Tiffany & Co. raised prices in 2022, the demand for luxury goods didn’t seem to slow. In fact, as brands continued to raise prices and limit supply, their resale value continued to grow.

And while the top 1% shopped for brand-new pieces like there’s no recession, the secondary market saw huge growth boosted by Millennials and Gen Z who were looking for more affordable investment pieces.

BEST-SELLING DESIGNERS ON WHOLESALE STOCK

As businesses searched for designer pieces to buy and resell, pre-owned luxury handbags by Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Hermès topped our list of the most-wanted brands to dominate the merchandise in your store for 2022.

So, what were you and your colleagues scooping up in 2022? Our top 20 stock styles were similar to last year’s with demand for the Chanel Classic Flap Bag and Wallet on Chain taking the top two spots, and the highly-coveted Birkin in third place based on total sales and units sold.

CHANEL STOCK

Chanel was our top-selling wholesale stock brand for 2022 with 37% of our total stock sales. As vintage styles, staple pieces, and neutral-hued bags continued to trend—the Classic Flap Bag, the Wallet on Chain, the Camera Case, Chain Tote, Boy Bag, the Deauville and Filigree Top Handle Bags did outsell the rest—statement bags with trendy pops of color in unique materials and fabrics added a fun twist to Chanel’s classic silhouettes.

While the Neverfull, OnTheGo, and the Speedy 30 led the way, the classic monogram prints still dominated, but newer styles in pops of color gained momentum on the classics.

DIOR STOCK

Dior was our 5th best-selling brand, with 9% of the total stock, and the Book Tote led the way. With people heading back to the office, going on vacation or just taking a quick weekend jaunt, larger bags are back in style and bigger than ever. But the Saddle Bag and the Lady Dior have also been trending, with shoppers looking for these must-haves in a mix of trotter prints, denim, leather, and vintage patterns and modern designs.

HERMÈS AUCTION

Despite the higher prices, demand for the Birkin, Kelly and Evelyne bags helped boost Hermès into the 3rd spot with 10% of total auction sales for 2022.
