Introduction:

Thank you to those who were able to attend our Social Media Webinar hosted by our co-founder and CMO Emily Erkel and founder of Inspired Media Co., Alyssa Chan-Evangelista. Here are some of our key takeaways and learnings to help you utilize social media for your resale business.

Growing Your Social Media Presence:

One of the most common questions we get is “how do I grow my presence on social media?” According to Chan-Evangelista, here is the top ten “Cs” for growing your social media presence:

1. Consistency

  • Posting 3-5 times per week on Instagram in-feed
  • Posting on TikTok and on Instagram Stories consistently as you have capacity
  • Post 5 - 7 stories minimally per day

2. Community

  • Humanize your brand by building personal connections with your customers helping them get to know you beyond the brand

3. Channel Goals

  • Understanding the goals of each social media platform will help you decide which ones are most beneficial to your brand
  • Instagram – use for engagement, community, and brand awareness
  • TikTok – use for brand visibility and SEO purposes
  • YouTube Shorts – use for new audience reach, and increasing visibility
  • Snapchat – use for connecting with your audience
  • Pinterest – use for SEO purposes

4. Choosing Trends

  • Platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and X (formerly Twitter) are at the forefront of trends
  • Keep up to date with these platforms because brands are becoming influencers in their own right

5. Cross-posting

  • If done correctly can be effective
  • Use the “Double bubble Strategy” – the Double Bubble strategy means your strategy across platforms stays consistent but the delivery of your message changes from platform to platform
  • If you do cross-post, make sure to utilize a tool like SnapTik to remove watermarks!

6. Collaboration

  • The creation of user generated content or UGC is important to build trust between brands and their customers
  • Collaboration with influencers can grow your reach as well

7. Choosing Optimal Posting Times

  • Try to consistently post one hour before your audience’s peak activity time
  • You can do this by going to your profile, clicking “professional dashboard.” then selecting “total followers,” and scrolling down to “most active times”
  • From there you can sort by hours of the day and days of the week to better understand what days and times your followers are most active to optimize your reach and engagement
  • If you missed your most engaged time that day, post anyways!

8. Cultivating Engagement

  • Respond to comments to engage with your followers creating a community
  • Encourage your followers to reach out to you over DM with any questions, comments, or concerns they may have
  • The more personal you make the experience the better

9. Creator Tools

  • Leveraging tools like Flick.Text for hashtags and ManyChat for engagement can be helpful in facilitating community engagement
  • Flick.Text can help increase the reach of your posts by helping to search relevant hashtags, analyzing the performance of each, and identify shadowbanned hashtags so that you avoid using them
  • ManyChat is an automated chatbot that allows your to engage with your followers instantly via a pre-written response, allowing you to never miss an opportunity with a potential lead

10. Challenge

  • Take risks! At the end of the day there isn’t a foolproof formula, it’s about testing new and engaging ways to build your following

Live Selling:

Live selling is a great way to build community, grow sales, and get to know your customers. Here are the top seven tips that make up the “secret sauce” of live selling:

1. Stay Consistent

  • Host your live shows on the same day and time each week and re-use the link to join

2. Set Reminders

  • 3-4 days before
  • The day before
  • And the day of

3. Plan in advance

  • Decide what products you want to show, and think about what key points you want to talk through
  • Think of Live Shows as a TV Guide with each show having it’s own theme, e.g. SLGs under $500, The Rare and Remarkable, Pre-Owned Louis Vuitton and Gucci Monogram, etc

4. Show Previews

  • Leading up to the show, go live, post teasers of unboxings, try-ons, and other content to capture the interest and attention of your followers

5. Giveaways

  • Throw in a giveaway once and awhile to engage your audience

6. Attendees

  • Driving people to attend your live shows can be complicated but a strong email and SMS program can help remind them

7. Collaborate

  • Working with other live sellers who compliment your business can help lead you to new clients, and increase your brand awareness

Getting Your Instagram Reinstated:

We understand that this can be devastating, and cause hardship but want to make it clear that this is just general guidance and not legal advice. We recommend the following:

  • Appeal the suspension
  • Seek legal advice to assist with the Meta appeal
  • Send a formal letter to the Meta Legal Team with legal assistance

To prevent future suspensions:

  • Avoid mixing brand hashtags with your business’ name
    • i.e. #brand or #YourStoreNameBrand
  • Don’t tag the brand in posts
  • Be cautious with vintage labels; instead use terms like pre-owned, or pre-loved
  • Refrain from using brand imagery, create your own original content
  • Disclose independence from brands to consumers
  • Update authentication assurances to clarify independence from brands

Key Takeaways:

  1. Consistency, personalization, trend awareness and quality are the main priorities in growing your social media
  2. Live selling is effective with consistency, audience engagement, and strategic planning
  3. For account suspension, follow general guidance: appeal and seek legal assistance. For prevention: refrain from mentioning the brand by name, create original content, and be transparent with consumers
