This is a one-of-a-kind, vintage Louis Vuitton Keepall Duffle Bag, re-designed by acclaimed international designer Jonathan Riss based in Paris and Hong Kong. Riss's lifelong love for exploration led him to collect one of the world’s largest collections of vintage Louis Vuitton Keepall bags. Combined with his creative talent which led to the cult brand Jay Ahr, Riss took two decades to masterfully incorporate his artistic inspiration and embroidery techniques to create iconic themes for the most recognizable designer travel bag of all time, the Keepall.
The inspiration behind the artworks came from local artists and cultural traditions from around the world, which include Persian rugs from Iran, Hokusai, Shunga from Japan, Africa and Pre-Colombian Art, Calligraphy, Iconic symbols from China, Central Asia craftsmanship, etc. Riss took these broader themes and created modern interpretations for each well traveled bag. The embroidery technique makes use of high-quality stones, beads, crystals, yarn and hundreds of different elements using techniques perfected from more than 10 years in the fashion industry.
Each bag in Riss's collection has travelled around the world, meanwhile, the embroidery techniques captures the concept of time as it can take weeks to complete and reminds the wearer of a particular time and place. The artwork recreates each vintage bag into a contemporary object which is both functional and beautiful to behold.
