How To Make A Face Mask With A Scarf And Hair Ties
Forget scarves around your neck or on the handle of your bags. Let's cover our faces but, of course, make it fashion.

Scarves are perfect for creating a no-sew face covering that follows U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations.  With new evidence showing that asymptomatic carriers may still be able to spread coronavirus without knowing they have it, the "CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies) especially in areas of significant community-based transmission."

For those of us who don't know how to sew, here are 6 easy steps to create a mask into a face covering with just a couple of hair ties and a scarf (ours is vintage Hermès of course). So let's do our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 while still looking chic.

Here is a step-by-step tutorial on how to make a face mask with a scarf and hair ties:

Step 1: Grab a scarf and 2 hair ties.

Step 2: Unfold the scarf.

Step 3: Fold it into a third.

Step 4: Take a hair tie and slide it down each side of the scarf.

Step 5: Then fold and tuck in the ends of the scarf.

Step 6: Then loop the hair ties around each ear. (Please note that the CDC's website also advises folding a coffee filter into the center of the folded bandana for additional effectiveness.)

Here's a video tutorial.
