Vintage Iconic Bags Making A Comeback
What's old is new again. Fashion continues to recycle as nostalgia headlines all the recent trends. Just when you thought it was safe to send those bellbottoms to Goodwill for good, they’re cool again. Bella and Hailey are dressing like 90’s teens in tie-dye and fluorescent everything is suddenly everywhere…so grab your vintage Chanel cat-eye sunglasses and protect your peepers from the glare.
“I think that younger generations are looking for heritage,” says Silvia Venturini Fendi, the designer of the famed Fendi Baguette.

A Vintage Love Story

When I first fell in love with luxury consignment, it was during the Great Recession. As the ladies who lunch unloaded their prized possessions at A Second Chance and Michael's Consignment, I was lurking in the shadows on Lexington Avenue, just waiting to get my paws on their Gucci and LV. I lived on the Upper East Side and even though I wasn’t making much money, it was the first time in my life I could justify spending more than one month’s rent on a designer bag. My first purchase was a Chanel East West Flap bag. It was a little dated and the black lambskin looked navy in certain lighting, but it made me feel very special. Every Sunday I’d pop by the shops to obsess over their new arrivals. I felt like I was part of this secret fashion society where I could touch, feel, try on and even purchase items that I had only dreamed about in the past.

Back to the Future in Fashion

While Dior reissued the Saddle Bag in 2018, Dior isn’t the only brand to time travel and bring back an item from the past. Check out who’s dusting off their old designs and making them new again. The Fendi Baguette The original “It” bag has returned. Fendi first launched this signature accessory in 1997 and it quickly became a fashion girl must-have thanks in part to Sex and the City. The timeless shape, impeccable detailing and dozens of unique designs made it not only a fashionable force to be reckoned with, but also a way to let your individuality shine. Today we’re celebrating the return of the classic Baguette. Fendi reimagined its renowned logo print and embossed the supple leather accessory with the iconic Zucca double F—and it even features the double F front closure too. The straps are removable, which means you can accessorize the bags with one of Fendi’s unique straps or add a crossbody/shoulder strap like the Strap You. The Fendi Logo Leather Mini Baguette Bag retails for $2,100, while the larger version will set you back $3,190. Not ready to make that kind of investment right now? Never fear…LePrix is here with some equally stunning, yet totally afforadble classic Baguettes in all their trendy Fendi glory!

The kidney-shaped must-have—with the iconic Dior charm and the world’s shortest strap—varied in size from a large toy saddle to something so small, you couldn’t even fit your phone. Nevertheless, it prevailed and has gone down in history as one of the most coveted handbags ever. In fact, in 2001 Dior’s accessory sales shot up more than 60% just because of the Saddle Bag! Almost 20 years later and we’re again witnessing the power of the little kidney-shaped bag that could. In 2018, Maria Grazia Chiuri reintroduced the Saddle Bag in Dior’s Fall ready-to-wear show in Paris to much fashion fanfare. Now it’s back on the shoulders of top influencers and celebrities alike, in buttery soft calfskin and Dior oblique canvas with leather trim. And just like the Fendi Baguette, the latest Saddle Bags come with ultra-sophisticated, detachable shoulder straps, so you can decide which one best fits your mood (and style) for the day. As for the sizing, well let’s just say closing the mini bag with your iPhone inside is still a little tricky, but you could be like ET and leave the “phone home.” While the updated Saddle Bags are enchanting, the original designs are just as lovely and easier on the wallet. Luckily, you can still get your hands on them at

When I lived in Times Square, the belt bag was the tell-tale accessory of the European tourist. Seems the joke was on me as I was soon gifted a Gucci belt bag from a fashion publicist, I promptly took it to the store on Fifth Avenue and exchanged it for a horsebit bamboo bag. I simply didn't understand the power of Gucci's Ophidia Belt Bag. Well, here we are in 2019 and the belt bag has made a huge comeback in the fashion circles. Previously seen only in brown suede, Gucci has repurposed the belt bag in the timeless GG Supreme logo print and red suede with leather trim. Fancy yourself a fanny pack? Check out what we have in store for you.
