Karl Lagerfeld: the Man, the Myth, the Legend, the Masterpieces

“I’m very much down to earth. Just not on this earth” – Karl Lagerfeld

Karl Lagerfeld, one of the most revered and iconic designers of all time, passed away on Tuesday. Lagerfeld was a man who constantly pushed the envelope, thought outside the box and designed masterpieces. A man whose name is synonymous with the French fashion house, Chanel. Not only was he a game-changing Creative Director at Chanel, but he also had unforgettable designs at Fendi, Balmain and Chloé, and even had his own namesake line.

Lagerfeld singlehandedly transformed Chanel into one of the world’s most valuable couture houses. When he took the reins, he immediately began reviving the sleepy brand.

Chanel Got Kissed By “Kaiser” Karl

“Chanel was a sleeping beauty. Not even a beautiful one. She snored.”

Kaiser is another word for Emperor and to call Karl the ruler of Chanel’s empire is not an understatement. Everyone remembers the story “The Emperor’s New Clothes” by Hans Christian Andersen…well unlike the storyline where the emperor is gifted with invisible clothes, Karl gifted the world with the interlocking “C”, one of the most recognizable logos on the planet.
