Sui Generis’ new consignment shop is like walking into the fabulous, uber-luxurious closets of history’s greatest fashion icons. With Chanel tweed jackets hanging from the walls, stacks of red soled Christian Louboutin heels, and dozens of Hermès scarves draped over racks, we were like kids in a proverbial candy shop.
Miguel Lopez and Gabriel Yanez opened their first Sui Generis store in the Castro district in San Francisco. Luckily for the Marina girls, the new Cow Hollow location on Union St has access to all their favorite designers including Burberry, Bottega Veneta, and Alexander McQueen at a discount, up to 50% off.Miguel and Gabriel spent a year looking for the ideal location and worked with talented interior designer Richard Westbrook. The space is aptly described by Lopez as “glam chic”, with bleached wood floors and black and gold fixtures. The wallpaper alone is a work of art, a lovely floral motif in Dior gray. With a keen eye for designer vintage, Miguel made a career at Max Mara and Ralph Lauren, while Gabriel was a buyer with a deep vintage expertise. For Miguel, retail runs in his blood. Miguel’s grandmother made a living from selling clothes from a factory. We met Miguel at the new Women’s boutique in Cow Hollow, where we really had to hold ourselves back from raiding the racks of designer clothes, shoes and handbags – until we at least had a chance to catch-up and say hello.
