Collette Consignment has become a NY secondhand empire where luxury and style rule in unison. With locations in both New York and The Hamptons, they are showing no signs of slowing down. So what is Collette all about? How have they managed to bring the highest standard of consignment for over 14 years? Find out in our interview with founder Tisha Collette!
How did Collette get its start?
Collette started 14 years ago in Southhampton on Jobs Lane. The inspiration for the business was to create a mini Bergdorf Goodman of consignment stores.
Does your personal style influence how you curate the store?
The store is absolutely a reflection of my personal style. I try to create an atmosphere which is luxurious and well edited. A lot of thought goes into everything from the merchandising of the store through to the furniture and fittings we select. We particularly like to use vintage furniture and I also enjoy refreshing the stores with custom upholstered pieces.
Do you ask your customers for the story behind the item when they come in to consign with you?
We always ask our customers the history behind any rare or vintage item. Not only are the stories fascinating but it is essential as part of the authentication process.
What is your favorite piece you've gotten in so far? What is the most interesting story you have heard?
There are too many to count over the past fourteen years! At the moment we have an amazing collection of estate Chanel jewelry which I really love.
What kind of look does Collette typically carry? Does the merchandise range or is it something more specific?
Collette loves high end luxe vintage and current designer bags and clothing. If we can imagine it being worn by someone when walking down Madison Avenue, then we want it! The merchandise is broad and can work for a lot of different personal styles.
Where do you see the future of Collette?
Online as well as all over the country and in Europe! We aim high at Collette!
