New York Fashion week has arrived! Like all good fashionistas we are either wearing our best Manolos to the shows or on our computers stalking what Spring/Summer 2015 has to offer. Who will be the breakthrough designer? What will be the next big trend? But before we get carried away let's stay in the moment. The Fall 2014 moment that is. This season we are OBSESSED with the luxurious fabrics and easy silhouettes that were sent down the runways. It appears designers are trying to add a fashionable twist to the humdrum of the 9-5. Easy tailoring and beautiful wrap coats were a standout that will work overtime this fall and for many seasons to come.
The Dior collection was stunning. Deftly mixing bright colors in immaculately tailored suiting with sharp graphic cuts. The emerald two-piece is definitely a workwear must have. And those 3/4 sleeve coats? We need one right away to tolerate colder weather on our daily commute. This true blue wool coat captures the true essence of the collections intention.
Celine is leading the pack in understanding what modern working women need because Creative Director Phoebe Philo embodies this herself. We loved her easy tailoring, 1940's influence and surreal use of fabrics and trims. The navy bell coat with asymmetrical white buttons is the definition of perfection.
Go to designer for downtown it girls, Alexander Wang showed a shift this season in both his namesake collection and his work at Balenciaga. He seemed to find his muses in an office cubicle rather than some exclusive underground New York club. Nevertheless, Wang honored his cool kid roots and added his own spin on the working girl. His use of leather button ups made his pieces perfect for a girl that's a bit more daring. Find a similar style here.
Take cues from these collections and you are sure to make smart investments to carry you through the season.
