Featuring Trendsetter, Anchyi Wei!

We are absolutely thrilled to feature the closet of fashion maven, Anchyi Wei, in our new Trendsetter spotlight!  Anchyi was recently recognized by Washingtonian Magazine as a Style Setter of 2012.  Outside of her day job, she channels her creative energy into designing jewelry for her collection which is set to launch next year. We got a sneak peak and her jewelry is to die-for. Each piece has a historical or cultural connection.  Some pieces have already been featured on the runway!  We are proud to give you exclusive access to shop coveted pieces from Anchyi’s wardrobe collection.  Feast your eyes on clothes and accessories by Nanette Lepore, Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Robert Cavallli, Nicole Miller, Ferragamo, and more!

IT GETS BETTER . . . by shopping her closet a portion of the proceeds will benefit Becky’s Fund, a national non-profit that works to support victims of domestic violence and provides educational programming for youth.  Shopping for a worthy cause - now that is something that will make you feel and look like a million bucks!

1. As recognized by the Washingtonian annual Style Setters award, your style is an inspiration to so many women!  How would you describe your style. What is your style philosophy?
I like the word "Hyperfashion" - big, bold, and unashamed.  Lines that don't conform to typical human form.  I'm always intrigued by architectural forms and the blend of contrasting ideas to achieve unexpected results - vintage and avant-garde, dark and light, hard and soft, luxury and frugality.  Personal style is about communication, and my approach is not that different from creating an art installation.
2. We love Anchyi Wei Designs - especially the statement pieces.  Where do you get your inspiration?  Who do you have in mind when you make your jewelry?

I'm always thinking of creating an art piece when designing a piece of jewelry - therefore the "statement" aesthetic.  My dad is a collector of Chinese antiques, so most of my inspirations come straight from the house I grew up in!  I envision the clientele  to be cultured, worldly and unafraid - and looking like they just stepped out of the MET, Smithsonian or Louve.  I'm also fascinated by the ethnic minority tribes of Asia - and want to help preserve their culture by incorporating their aesthetics into my pieces.

3. Where would you love to see Anchyi Wei Designs be in 5 years?

The

line is still in the works, but I hope in 5 years it would be in various local boutiques and e-commerce platforms!  It would also be my dream to become a CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) nominee.

4. Describe the moment you first fell in love with fashion.

Like most little girls, I loved playing with Barbie's outfits!  I'd show pictures from books and catalogs to my mom and make her sew little outfits for me.  At a younger age, my love for fashion has been an evolving process and needed alot of refinement; but I'd have to point the defining moment to realizing that fashion is a representation of my artistic and creative individuality, and anappreciation for talented designers, rather than just putting on pretty clothes or trying to impress others.

5. What five pieces are essential to everyone's wardrobe?

It's hard limiting this down to 5!  Black and nude pumps; comfy tees/tanks; a fun, architectural black skirt; sparkly evening bag, and an outfit-defining statement necklace.

6. What do you love doing outside of Anchyi Wei Designs?

By day I work as a Federal contractor providing web design solutions to a government agency.  I love food and nightlife, so always enjoy checking out the latest restaurant/bar scene.  Experiencing other cultures of the world has provided such integral and humbling experiences in my life.  As a designer, I'm a bit ADD with anything creative - photography, interior design, graphics design, and of course - keeping up-to-date with the fashion industry. If I can find the time, I want to learn music mixing!

7. Describe your closet on SNOBSWAP and tell us about your favorite pieces.

It sure is not the place for boring basics!  Lots of fun, flirty contemporary and designer pieces to make anyone feel glamorous.

The Leopard Cavalli Pumps would dress up any LBD and instantly make you feel sexy.

I love long dresses - they take me to vacation on an exotic island - and the M Missoni Dress does just that in succulent tropical colors.

The Marc by Marc Jacobs Quincy Sweater is so fun and easy to wear with just leggings or jeans.

And of course, you can never go wrong with a well-fitted dress from Karen Millen and Nicole Miller at a cocktail event!  See more of her favorite designer pieces here.
