Q: How does your experience in the army translate into your life now as mother of two girls, and the owner of Mrs. DC. America?
The military discipline I was taught as an officer in the US army, gave me a better understanding of how tackle challenges with my daughters and the Pomp and Circumstance a lively tradition in the military, taught me the protocol of pageantry.
Q: How did the opportunity to own Mrs. DC America come about?
I had won two titles in the Mrs. America system (2010 Mrs. Maryland and Mrs. America 1st Runner up)and then I was asked to come back and be a judge at Mrs. America 2011. In August of last year, I got a call from Mrs. America asking me if I wanted to takeover DC. It took me 3 days to give an answer. Finally I said yes.
Q: What do you love most about Mrs. DC America?
I love listening to the stories of the contestants. Their passions, their dreams. They give great advice on how to keep sparks flying in a marriage and how they balance work- life.
Q: You are a woman who wears many hats - how do you describe your personal style?
My style is upscale conservative with an edge. I was affiliated with the military for 12 years, and I fell in love with the sleek tailoring of the dress uniform. No fuss. If I do wear a loose top or dress, I will usually put a belt around it, to give it a tailored look.
Q: What items in your closet can you not live with out?
I have 4 inch Cole Hann stilettos that are one of my most comfortable. I have a Michael Kors jumper that tends to get many compliments and a boat neck Kenneth Cole evening top that I adore. I also have a large Cole Hann bag I picked up when we traveled to Vegas. Though I have had it for several years, when I wear it, I still get asked where I got it from. I love this bag because it's stylish yet big enough to put your children's needed things in it discreetly.
Q: What does it take to achieve success as a decorated army officer, Elite and Ford model, pageant queen, owner of Mrs. DC. America, and a mother?
A damn good Outlook calendar, a glass of wine and lots of sex with my husband to ease the nerves.(laughing).
